8th Pay Commission: latest status (17 October 2026)
- The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 and given 18 months to submit its report.
- It is holding consultations with employee groups and states – after Bengaluru (7–8 October 2026), its next scheduled visit is Mumbai on 22–23 October 2026.
- No fitment factor, pay matrix or effective date has been announced. Numbers in the news are projections or union demands.
How the calculator works
- New basic pay = current basic pay × the fitment factor you choose, rounded to the nearest ₹100.
- Today's basic + DA = current basic × (1 + current DA%). DA is 60% from 01 Jan 2026.
- Real change = new basic − today's basic + DA, because DA is expected to restart from zero after the merger.
Worked example
A Level 6 employee on ₹35,400 basic with DA at 60% gets ₹56,640 as basic + DA today. At a fitment factor of 2.00, the new basic pay would be ₹70,800 – a real increase of ₹14,160, or 25.0%, not 100%. At 1.92 it would be ₹68,000 (+20.1%).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 8th Pay Commission fitment factor?
It is the multiplier that converts current basic pay into new basic pay. The 8th Pay Commission has not announced one; figures such as 1.92 or 2.86 in the news are estimates or demands, not decisions.
When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025 with 18 months to report, which points to around May 2027. The government decides the implementation date after the report.
8th pay commission me salary kitni badhegi?
It depends on the fitment factor and DA. Because DA (60% today) is merged into the new basic, the real increase in basic + DA is much smaller than the fitment factor suggests. The calculator shows both.
What was the 7th Pay Commission fitment factor?
2.57. The minimum basic pay went from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000. The 6th Pay Commission used 1.86.
Will DA become zero after the 8th Pay Commission?
In past pay commissions, DA was merged into the new pay and restarted from zero. The same is expected, but the final rule will be in the government's orders.
Is this calculator official?
No. It is a scenario tool. Your actual revised pay will be fixed by the government's pay rules after the Commission's report is accepted.
